Inset vs. Overlay Cabinets – What’s the Difference?
If you’ve started to research kitchen or bath cabinets for your next remodel project, you have likely seen the countless different cabinet options on the market. But which one is right for you? Let’s take a closer look into some of the key differences between inset and overlay cabinetry.
Inset Cabinets
An inset cabinet design features doors that are set within the cabinet frame and sit flush with the face of the cabinet, providing a sleek appearance. The hinges can be hidden or exposed – and in the case of our inset cabinetry, they are hidden to provide a premium and seamless appearance. Because of the level of craftsmanship involved, inset cabinets are typically priced higher than their overlay counterparts, but provide a more distinct appearance. Inset cabinets are a popular choice amongst homeowners and growing in popularity.
Overlay Cabinets
There are two different types of overlay cabinets – partial and full overlay. Partial overlay cabinets sit on the face of the cabinet and leave a noticeable gap between the doors, allowing the frame of the cabinet to peek through. Full overlay cabinets completely cover the face of the cabinet, leaving little to no frame exposed. Overlay cabinets are a typically cheaper option.
